Teaching Irish tradition: Pancake-Tuesday
Written by admin in Events, Press Release | No Comments »
The Carrigaline Educate Together National School is holding a Pancake-Day with the children in school on Tuesday, 24th February from 11 o‛clock.
Included in actualising the multi-denominational approach of the Educate Together ethos is the teaching about many different events during the year in relation to various religions.
Pancake-Tuesday, also known as Shrove Tuesday, is before the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. Lent includes a forty-day fasting period towards Easter-Sunday. The day before its start, all rich food items, like eggs, milk and sugar must be used up. Thus it has become traditional in many countries with Christian denominations, to have pancakes on the day before Ash-Wednesday, the start of Lent.
In relation to this, on Pancake-Tuesday from 11 a.m., the children of Carrigaline Educate Together National School baked their own pancakes. In rotation they mixed the ingredients, while former chef and current SNA, Angela, showed each child how their pancake was cooked. The biggest fun for everyone was tossing the pancakes high up in the air and back into the pan. Seeing the joy of the children tasting their own productions was the final highlight of CETNS Pancake-Day .
In this practical way, a tradition, that has become very strong in Ireland, is being passed on to our next generation. And as a holiday of religious origin, the children will learn about the background of the day, while Lent is the topic in class.
Enrollment Open For All Classes
Written by admin in Enrollment | No Comments »
Carrigaline Educate Together is a young and vibrant National School that has an open approach to enrollment.
Each year we offer enrollment into Junior Infants based on our ‘first come, first served’ enrollment policy.
We are also able to offer places to those who wish to transfer children into other classes within the school (for example in the case where you’ve just moved into the area). Arrangements can be made directly with the school principal with regards to children enrolling in classes other than Junior Infants. As a young and growing school we enjoy small class sizes that favours individual learning and participation.
For more information on enrollment to the school check out our enrollment page and use the included form to contact us regarding enrollment for any class, right up to 2013.
Parents Raise More Than €1500!
Written by Parents Association in Events, General News, Parents | No Comments »
CETNS parents raised more than €1500 for the school by bagging shopping at Dunnes Stores in Carrigaline this weekend. This is a fantastic result – well done to everyone! The money will be spent on sending our children to see the Cork Pops Concerts for Schools, on Parent Association expenses, including insurance and National Parents’ Council membership, and on a new photocopier for the school office. Many thanks to all CETNS parents who gave up their time to make this fundraiser such a huge success!
